Am I Going to Get to Flip a Tire?

Tire Flipping does not necessarily have to be reserved just professional athletes. Everyone can reap the benefits of flipping tires to increase strength, power, sport-specific explosiveness & cardiorespiratory endurance! Of course, proper coached form and hip mobility are necessary before hoisting one of these bad boys, but when your body is ready for it, it is an effective weapon to add to your arsenal of training methods. Tire flipping also mimics the powerful explosion of energy that is evident in the Olympic Clean & Jerk and Snatch. They are a versatile tool too. They can also make an excellent striking …

But First…

…Mobility! All of our training sessions begin with nourishing our flexibility and mobility. In this house, your awesome body isn’t going anywhere near those weights until… First, Foam Rolling.Second, Static Stretches.Third, Active/Dynamic Mobility Why? Well, let’s make it simple. We want to recruit more muscles fibers to work for us, but if they are all bound up in traffic jams, AKA “knots,” how the hell are they gonna get to work? Chances are they probably won’t, and then their colleagues and fibers from other departments start doing their job for them, (not as well of course…because IT’S NOT THIER JOB), …

Are We a “Strongman Gym?”

Just recently a dear friend of mine and someone who I look up to in Strongman Sport complimented our House of Blue by calling it a “Strongman Gym.” I quickly replied, “we are not a Strongman Gym.” Yes, we have plenty of Strongman equipment. Yes, we have coaches, including myself who have competed in Strongman. Yes, we excitedly host Strongman Events. Yes, we happily sponsor Strongman Events. Yes, we train team members to compete in Strongman, MANY for the first time. Yes, WE LOVE LOVE LOVE Strongman. It is however, a part of what we do here. We have created …

your mind is a brilliant fuck you upper.

What does that title even mean? Well, it’s brilliant and it’s brilliance in negotiation tactics, can, well, fuck us up. Lemme show ya. Even as a child develops, as parents we are taught to explain “why” we have asked a child to do something or ‘why” these are the steps involved in doing it. This way, the child connects with the task/learning at hand and has a much better chance of seeing it through…. Well, Today I invite you to revisit YOUR why. Why do you workout? train? have a membership at our gym?I was saying this morning as I …

Thoughts & Words. Strength or Weakness.

Behavior Kinesiology Behavior Kinesiology is a branch of kinesiology (the study of human movement) that studies how thinking directly impacts our physical body, stress symptoms & the effects on our immune system.  Behavioral kinesiology helps us to determine if we are carrying old limiting beliefs that are continually self-sabotaging. With that being said, words are very powerful. So powerful, that even multiple tests performed in the field of  Behavior Kinesiology, have found consistent links between self-sabotaging thoughts & negative speech and increased or decreased strength and/or our output from our muscles. Dr. John Diamond, the founder of Behavior Kinesiology noted that “muscles get stronger or weaker depending …

New Year. New You. No Thank You.

I’m not gonna do the whole “new year, new you” thing. Not even close. Instead, I offer this reminder… Every moment of every day entitles us to make our own decisions, no matter what four digits follow the month & day. We are our present, not our past & our present decisions craft our future. I welcome us to embrace our ability to craft that future, moment by moment. Choose to immerse ourselves into what makes us happiest. Choose to fill our body with nutritious fuel. Choose to activate our bodies daily so we can experience longevity & optimal well-being. …

I have been prescribed naps.

I have been prescribed naps. This mom, wife, business owner, personal trainer, athlete, overall energetic & excited human being has been prescribed “naps.” (among other things) Sounds pretty fucking fantastic, doesn’t it? Doctor’s orders: I have to sleep a FULL 8+ hours every night AND “nap” for up to 2 hours during the day. Who wouldn’t want this lifestyle?  Who wouldn’t want to just sleep? Well, let me tell you, not me, not you, not anyone. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, because in this case, all my body wants to literally & physically do IS sleep. After a little over 1 month …

Confessions of a “CouldaBeen”

It was the Olympic Trials. I was prepared, physically. I was experiencing the best season of my life and found myself edging closer to my longed for 200Ft. throw in competition and making the USA Olympic Track & Field Team (just typing it, gives me butterflies). I was 27 years old and I thought of this moment since I started throwing discus at age 15. Ranked 5th in the USA and 32nd in the world, I stepped into the stadium in Sacramento, California. Physically, I was ready to go, ready to accomplish, and just like my discus, ready to soar. …
